Great stuff from jazz trumpetist, the best album he cuted in the late 70's, with wonderful arrangement work by Gene Page, Michel Colombier and Tom Tom 84. The musicians set is just impressive: Harvey Mason, Louis Johnson (Brothers Johnson), Jerry Knight, Joe Sample, Abraham Laboriel, Tom Scott and many others. It features great jazz funk numbers, mixing funkyness with a great laid back groove, including the hit "Rise" that was sampled for a Notorious Big hit, the great version of Crusaders hit "Street Life", the groovy "Rotation", with only percussions as rhythm section, and so on. A classic! |
